We are in the second half of July and where has the summer gone. School starts in less than three weeks and it seems like it just ended a couple of weeks ago. It's been crazy busy here. Little Thatcher Cruz Johnson was born on June 20th. We got to have Liam spend the night for a few nights and we had lots of fun together. He had fun going to the pool with us and it was interesting to see that he really didn't want to be in the wading pool. He wanted to be in the "big" pool or running through the spray pad. He joined right in with the big boys and thought he was one of them, it was cute.
We took a two week vacation which we called "The Grandpa Tour". First we visited Wayne in Draper, Ut. We spent a day there and he took Lizzie and I up to Snowbird. Hannah got to hang out with her friend, Mackenzie Anderson. We drove to Rexburg and picked Michelle up, then headed to Spokane. Richard had felt a strong impression that we needed to go to Spokane to see his dad again since his health was so bad. We arrived in Spokane on a Wednesday night. Thursday morning we went to the dialysis center where his dad was receiving treatment. The girls and I went in and said "hi" to grandpa. Then we left to do some shopping and Richard stayed to visit with his dad. They had a nice visit with casual conversation and grandpa wanted an accounting of what's happening with all of our children. Richard asked him what he would do for him and he said he really wanted a vanilla Frosty from Wendy's. Richard said he'd do what he could (with a smile on his face). Richard called me and said that his dad was tired and I could come and get him anytime. I made one more stop before heading over there and he called and said his dad had passed away. Just within those few minutes. He was talking with him and dad said, "I wish I...." and he laid his head back and was gone. It was a relief for everyone that Richard was there with him when he passed. He wasn't alone, and that was his greatest fear. What a blessing for them both! The next few days were busy with funeral arrangements and family arriving in town. After the funeral was over, we drove to Sequim to see my dad and Penny. It was great to see them. Penny takes care of her mother, Grace, full-time now. Dad had a knee injury that made it very difficult to for him to get around. Heather was there with Anthony and Austin and we all had a nice FHE sharing stories and just spending time together. We drove to La Push the next day which was the 4th of July. James and Kristie and their kids joined us there and we had fun. The kids dug a giant "hole to China" and played in the water. We celebrated another wonderful holiday on the beach. The girls had plenty of fun and the weather was beautiful. Just like the times before, the fireworks were spectacular. We returned to Sequim and spent a few more hours with dad and Penny. Grace was in the hospital. We drove back to Spokane and went to Lake Coeur d'Alene with the cousins and Aunts & Uncles. The adults went out to a nice dinner at Wolf Lodge. Richard got a huge porterhouse steak and I got the Ribeye steak. For dessert he ordered "Key Lime Creme Bulee Cheesecake" Wolf Lodge is where Richard's parents spent their honeymoon. Then we headed home. It was a nice vacation, but an eventful and busy one.
A couple of days after we got home, my sister Angie and niece, Ashlyn, flew in from Virginia. We were so happy to have them here for a few days. Wayne also came and stayed with us. We had a nice visit and did a couple of crafts together. Then they left to drive to Utah together, and then on to Sequim so Angie and Ashlyn can see Grace.
We've had a busy, go go go kind of summer, and now school is around the corner. Whew!
